The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is an Indian force conceived on October 24, 1962 for security along the India’s border with the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, border covering 2115 kilometres. It is one of the Central Armed Police Forces. The first Director General of the ITBP was Late Sardar Balbir Singh. This was also his brain child along with his colleagues.
Only four battalions were sanctioned to begin with, to fill up the security vacuum that was prevalent at that time on the Indo-Tibetan border. Later in view of the additional responsibilities and the task redefined in 1976, the Force was restructured in 1978.

Age Limit: Candidates age should be-
ASI, HC (Ministerial): 18 to 25 years (DR) upto 40 years (LDCE) as on 01.01.2014
HC/ESC : 20 to 25 years as on 31.03.2014 Upper age limit is relaxable for SC/ST by 5 years and for OBC by 3 years.
Educational Qualification: Intermediate or Senior Secondary School Certificate (10+2) examination from a recognized Board or University or equivalent.
Scale of Pay : Assistant Sub-Inspector (Stenographer) : PB-I, Pay Scale Rs. 5200–20200 + Grade Pay Rs.2,800/- per month.
Head Constable (E&SC) and Head Constable (Ministerial ) :PB-I, Pay Scale Rs. 5200–20200 + Grade Pay Rs.2,400/- per month
Selection Procedure: Candidates would be selected on the basis of their performance in screening test and interview.

For General and OBC category : Rs.50/- and for m SC/ST, Ex Service Men, Female candidates and ITBP candidate for the post of ASI/Steno (LDCE) & HC/Ministerial (LDCE) : No fee is required.
