The Bangalore Center of the Indian Statistical Institute was conceived by Prof.P.C.Mahalanobis during 1960s, even when the city was emerging as a center of science. It is a tribute to his foresight that the Institute is now well-established in one of the most vibrant scientific communities in Asia.
With the Statistical Quality Control unit functioning in Bangalore from 1956, and Documentation Research and training Center from 1962, Professor Mahalanobis thought of starting a center of ISI around the mid-sixties. The presence of several national institutes of higher learning, the salubrious climate and the growing metropolitan culture must have prompted him to consider this possibility. In 1966, Govt. of Karnataka granted ISI 30 acres of forest land full of eucalyptus trees, next to the upcoming Bangalore University on Mysore Road, at a token price.

Name of the Post : Assistant Librarian
Educational Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Library Science/Information Science/Documentation or an equivalent professional degree with uniformly good academic record. or At least high second class Master’s Degree in Arts / Science /Commerce plus at least high second class Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science/Information Science/Documentation, or an equivalent professional degree with uniformity good academic record.
Age limit: Preferable 43 years as on 24th March 2014 including 3 years age relaxation for OBC category under the central government rules.
Experience: At least three years experience in a professional capacity as a Scientific Assistant ‘C’ or equivalent in the pay band Rs, 9,300-34,800 with grade pay Rs.4600-in a large technical library. Desirable: Knowledge in computerisation or information Technology of a large technical Library.
Pay Scale: INR Rs.15600-39100 + Grade Pay Rs.6000/-
